Go Bananas for Spring/Summer'11

Photo: Steven Meisel/PRADA S/S'11

As magazines and blogs are flooded with images and ‘how to’ from  fashion shows for autumn/winter 2011, we thought that we need to take a step back and look at the emerging trend that is taking over S/S’11, as summer is just around the corner.
Designers decided to take a hard look into the archives of fashion and dig up trends that were long forgotten to excite, enamour and bewilder our imagination with vivid colours, luxurious yet ethereal fabrics and a sense of 70’s vintage je ne sais quoi.
Moving on from last year’s Hawaiian prints this summer spell is all about fruits!

Inspired by hot exotic destinations and legendary Brazilian samba legend Carmen Miranda, the vibrant fruit trend took to the catwalk this season in all its glory, in an abundant of shapes and forms, from t-shirts to dresses, shoes and accessories even bags that it seems like the fashion world is going bananas!

Who would have thought that legendary fashion house Prada would send models down the runway sashaying in baroque banana print dresses and rock offspring Stella McCartney, would convey her love for anything organic into extraordinary tangerine inspired prints we all would love to wear?
Designers in the likes of Zac Posen, Moschino and Sonia Rykiel are certainly feeling fruity this season with everything from oranges, apples, lemons and cherries taking centre stage in their collections but most of all adding flamboyant sex-appeal to your outfits.
Trends are only symbolic and as a fashionable woman of the 21st century you need to learn to give your own interpretation to them. Wearing the juicy fruit trend from head-to-toe will not win you any points on the best-dressed list but it will definitely make a few heads turn.
Try pairing up a vivacious fruit top with a pair of skinny jeans and heels or add plain tonal sandals with a grand fruit pattern dress and aim to shake-up any minimal outfit with fruity accessories. Keep the look clean and elegant and adjust the trend accordingly for night and day.

It's official- Decarnin is no more Balmain's Creative Director

We previously let you guys in on the rumours regarding Christophe Decarnin, the Balmain creative director and how the designer was a no-show at his Balmain a/w'11 showcase.

Well it is now official, following months of speculation, that Decarnin has stepped down from his throne at Balmain and  his successor will be announced as early as next week. American fashion journalist Cathy Horyn, believes that stylist Melanie Ward, who previously worked at Helmut Lang, is going to take over from Decarnin.

After Decarnin took the reigns at Balmain in 2007 profits for the brand went up an amazing 50% but it looks like that the designer didn't see eye to eye with Balmain chairman Alain Hivelin who wanted to start a diffusion & more affordable line for the house, called 'Balmain Blue'.

All we have to say is that we loved every single show that Decarnin created for Balmain and we wish him all the luck in the future!

Pringle of Scotland appoint ex-Balenciaga designer as Design Director

It looks like that the Galliano curse has transformed the industry. Following the designer's meltdown a number of rumours started making the rounds within the fashion industry including Hedi Slimane moving into YSL and Stefano Pilati being fired, Riccardo Tisci replacing Galliano at Dior, Hannah McGibbon out from Chloe and Haider Ackermann moving up the ranks into Givenchy.

Even though LVMH announced that the Galliano replacement won't be revealed until next fall, Pringle of Scotland the Scottish heritage brand have just announced their new design director who is none other that Balenciaga and Nicholas Ghesquiere's right hand man, designer Alistair Carr.

Carr who had previously worked for Mugler, Marni and Chloe is a very innovative and edgy designer and he is known for his love of tattoos & mastering corsetry having interned under Mr. Pearl in the past.

It looks like Pringle's changing artistic direction and maybe aesthetic. Can't wait 'till next season to see what they come up with!

Marc Jacobs - The raunchy fashion house?

What is really going on at Marc Jacobs? We've been hearing all sorts lately and even though we are finding it hard to believe most of them, more and more people are coming forward with bizzarre stories. It looks like some employees or former employees are not really happy with  CEO Robert Duffy.

A former CFO of Marc Jacobs International is suing the company, Robert Duffy and LVMH (not Marc Jacobs himself) because as he claims the CEO is using company money to pay off personal expenses, makes employees watch gay pornography and also he comprised a book where all employees were asked to be photographed in awkward sexual positions(according to the NY Post). This all sounds very peculiar!

On top of that an ex- intern hijacked the MJ twitter account claiming that Robert Duffy 'is a tyrant' and wouldn't advise anyone to apply to work for him.

Is there the slightest bit of truth in these allegations or is it just bitterness?

Anna Dello Russo was almost denied a dress?

At the latest Chanel show for autumn/winter 2011, the always over the top Vogue Nippon editor, Anna Dello Russo, attended wearing a dress from designer of the moment, Mary Katrantzou. We guess that sounds pretty normal right? Dello Russo loves extravagant dresses and Katrantzou is known for her embellished graphic prints so it sounds like the perfect fit!

Well the designer that was recently in a BFC showcase in New York presenting her latest collection, wasn't so sure that she should lend the Vogue editor the dress. Not because Anna Dello Russo couldn't do the dress any justice- on the contrary- but because Katrantzou was worrying whether the editor would be able to sit down comfortably and watch the shows as the dress was made with delicate crystal flowers.

Anna quickly reassured her 'Mary I'm a pro', the designer told the New York times and the dress was returned in perfect condition."Maybe she has amazing leg muscles and just pretended to sit through the entire show," said the Greek designer, completely amazed.

Well if anyone could do it, Anna can!

Is this the new advert for Marc Jacobs 'Oh Lola' perfume?

Blogs and sites on the internet have been buzzing all morning wondering whether these images that have just surfaced are really the real images for the new Marc Jacobs perfume ad.The alleged images only appeared on a specific tumblr account but from the looks of it they definitely have the Juergen Teller-esque touch both in attitude & aesthetic.

Dakota Fanning acts as the face of the perfume ad; The former child star is featured for a second time in a Marc Jacobs ad- the first time was almost 4 years ago in Spring 2007 when she sparked controversy posing for the house at the tender age of 13.

Arizona Muse in YSL video campaign for S/S'11

For our first post on Seventh Woman we decided to present the Spring/Summer 2011 campaign of a fashion house that is as iconic as we aspire to become.

Yves Saint Laurent presents model Arizona Muse in one of the most aethereal video campaigns that we have laid eyes on for a while. The video that was filmed in the gardens of the ’30s Villa Bled Roknine in Marrakech’s Palmeraie is also the same place that the print advert was shot and creative director Stefano Pilati had a very specific reason for doing so.

Being a designer who respects the importance of history & looking back through the archives of the magnificent fashion house for inspiration, he acknowledged Yves Saint Laurent's love for Marocco. The late designer along with his partner Pierre Barge fell head over heels with Marocco and even acquired the famous Majorelle botanical gardens in Marrakech in the '80s.

Stefano Pilati acted as creative director of the film campaign that was shot by world renowned fashion photographers Inez & Vinoodh.
